Vickie was born in Atlanta, grew up in Marietta, and currently resides in Decatur, Georgia.  The daughter and grand-daughter of piano tuners, her love of music and rhythm is shown in her art.   She studied piano from an early age, with many musical influences -- gospel, country, rock and classical among them.  A graduate of the University of Georgia, she has an ABJ with a major in film.  She is a life-long volunteer, volunteering for Habitat for Humanity (she was trained as a supervisor and has worked on as many as 15 houses) and giving historical tours of Atlanta for the Atlanta Preservation Center, are ways Vickie stays active in the city she loves.  She currently gives the tour of the Fox Theater. Vickie has long been employed in the field of advertising, placing media on television, radio and cable.

Vickie is the student of renowned artist Chery Baird.  She is a member of the Spruill Arts Center, and a founding member of both the Shadowline Artist Group, and the Atlanta Collage Society (where she currently serves on the board).

ARTIST STATEMENT

I can't remember a time in my life when there wasn't music, and when I began to read came the rhythm of words.

It was natural for me to move into the visual arts as a result of this.  In this world I found I could create rhythms and rhymes with visual imagery.  I create a place where the mundane pleasures are celebrated.  I lead with the eye - with both color and texture - into a place the mind might not have gone before.
My feeling of life - turn the ordinary into the extra-ordinary - is seen in my paintings, collages and drawings.
